World Car Of The Year: VW Polo [POLO]6/21/2013 2:25:51 AM
German manufacturer Volkswagen has been producing the Polo since 1975; the latest model was launched in 2009. The VW Polo is a small supermini that is available as a 3 or 5 door; older generations came as a coupe, saloon and estate too. In some countries the saloon is still available, but in the UK we only have the hatchback model variants. The current Polo has a more aggressive look than its predecessor; the angular headlights give it a masculine presence. It is based on the same platform as the SEAT Ibiza and Audi A1, so it is based on a solid platform. The Polo has taken some design cues from the latest models of the Golf and Scirocco. The Polo sits in a very competitive market battling it out with the like of the Vauxhall Corsa and Toyota Yaris. The Volkswagen Polo won the 2010 European Car of the Year, defeating the Toyota iQ and Opel/Vauxhall Astra. The Polo\'s award makes it two years out of two for Volkswagen, after the Golf won the same award last year.If you are looking for a new Volkswagen Polo for sale then the current model is definitely a sound choice. It was declared the World Car of the Year 2010, a year after its launch. It is a much coveted award and the jurors said the Polo boasted best-in-class packaging and handling, was reliable and safe and is \"one of the classiest small VWs ever built\".With its great looks, excellent reliability and good driveability the Polo is very popular with young drivers, new drivers and lady drivers. I myself use the Polo as a secondary car for London driving, it is very nippy and town and has never let me down. Funnily enough my first car was also a Polo, a very old one but it got me from A to B!
